Dome Hills Station offer farmstay accommodation near Oamaru on a high country sheep and cattle station in the Kakanui Mountains that lie between North and Central Otago.
The homestead and lodge are in the foothills about 600m above sea level, rising to Kakanui Peak at 1500m some 25kms away.
The Lodge at Dome Hills Station offers guests a unique high country experience and holiday among magnificent scenery with the opportunity to explore and be part of a working station. The Lodge is perfect for retreats, family holidays and special occasions, where guests may fish, hunt, play golf, ride horses, cycle and hike. The Lodge provides an ideal base for trips around the South Island, including to Mt Cook, the Waitaki Valley, Naseby curling rink and the Rail Trail.
The Lodge
Designed by Ashley Muir and built in 1980, the Oamaru stone Lodge is surrounded by mature trees and garden and is a few hundred metres from the homestead and farm buildings. Recently renovated and refurbished the Lodge offers four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large sunny kitchen, dining and living room, with sunroom. The whole house is heated by under floor heating and an open log fire, with stunning mountain views from inside and out.
The lodge is fully self-contained for self-catering, with pantry basics, preserves, coffee machine, tea and coffee selections provided. We also offer the option of home-cooked meals and picnic lunches, with prior booking essential. Wireless satellite broadband, DVD and stereo, also full laundry available for guests. Local wine from Ostler Vineyard and Kurow Winery can be ordered, with local Waitaki produce a feature on the menus. The lodge is non-smoking inside.
The lodge is available on a sole occupancy basis, with special rates for longer stays. Occupation of the property is better suited to children over the age of 12 years. No dogs or pets please. Location
Dome Hills Station and the Lodge are easily accessible by road, an easy 45 minutes’ drive from Oamaru. There is also a helicopter pad. The lodge is handy to a variety of local activities and attractions. These include the nearby Tokarahi Golf Course, the Vanished World Fossil Trail and the Elephant Rocks (where Chronicles of Narnia was filmed). The Danseys Pass and Maerewhenua River provide rattling rocks and good fishing, with a scenic drive through to Naseby and the curling rink. Duntroon has Maori rock art and an historic smithy. The Vintner's Drop and Kurow Winery are at Kurow, with the beautiful lakes and power stations of the Waitaki Valley nearby. The Moeraki boulders, historic Oamaru and blue penguin colony are all within easy driving distance. Chauffeured trips are available to Naseby, St Bathans and the Blue Lake, Oamaru, Aoraki Mt Cook and the Glacier Explorers trip. Prior booking is essential.
