Join our weekly Friday tours with local farmers as your guide!

Learn the fascinating history of selling livestock, one of New Zealand’s oldest traditions, that dates back to the 1880’s.

The Livestock Centre is a thriving, growing business and is very much part of the lifeblood of Feilding and the Manawatu District.

Wander through the 330 sheep pens to watch the auction process in action. Take a seat in the state of the art cattle rostrum and view the latest computer technology used.

Feilding Saleyard’s twice weekly sales see an average of 15,000 sheep and 1,400 head of cattle sold each week, plus there are a variety of specialist seasoned sales.

Feilding Saleyards, one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere are uniquely located in the heart of Feilding’s Edwardian town centre.

After your tour, check out the Saleyards Cafe where the rural community meet or enjoy the ambience of one of Feilding’s restaurants, cafes or bars.

Take time to wander around our award winning Farmers Market in the Square, and a wide range of speciality shops with free parking and no traffic lights.

The Coach House Museum - Feilding's Home of Rural Stories

Feilding's Coach House Museum is home to an outstanding collection of rural New Zealand Heritage, showcasing over 140 years of history.

Visit our museum and enjoy a fascinating historical journey through the lives of our early settlers and the development of the Manawatu region.

To help you enjoy your tour we provide the following information:

Tours leave from the PGG Wrightsons foyer – PGG Wrightsons building next door to the Saleyards (southern end) in Manchester Street, Feilding

  • Your Tour Guides are local farmers offering their services as volunteers – please respect their generosity and be on time – 11am start.
  • As part of legal regulations, everyone must comply with the Health & Safety requirements when on the Saleyards premises and be aware of the identified hazards.
  • All persons must wear suitable footwear ie: flat soled shoes/boots – no jandals Note: pull on disposable booties will be provided to keep your shoes clean.
  • Please bring a raincoat and/or umbrella if wet as the Saleyards operate in all weather.
  • A camera/video is highly recommended.
  • Bus parking – (after dropping people off at PGG Wrightsons foyer) is provided and signposted in Manchester Square, outside the public toilets. Please do not leave buses parked at PGG Wrightson during tours.
  • All bookings and payment for your tour must be made in advance to the Feilding & District Information Centre, 10 Manchester Square, or Box 463, Feilding (unless prior arrangements are made)
