Milestone Cottage Retreat Mangawhai (Northland) offers boutique seaside accommodation & wedding venue located at Mangawhai Heads, 80 minutes north of Auckland.
Situated within a sub tropical garden and around a central palm fringed croquet lawn are six self contained, individually designed cottages.
Each cottage has its own unique kiwi style design and is carefully positioned within 2 acres of lush sub tropical garden to ensure privacy and your own utopia. The property is across the estuary from the famous Mangawhai Sand Dunes.
Some cottages have views of the sea and others look into the garden.

The Venue
The heart of Milestone Cottages is its extensive croquet lawn which acts as a village green to the surrounding cottages. It is well sheltered from the wind and is based on sand so it drains quickly. It is also a beautiful spot to erect a marquee for the ceremony, reception, wedding breakfast and after function.
Location
Steps lead down through coastal bush to a sandy bay below. Here you can swim, kayak, walk or bird watch. The cottages are directly across from a world recognized bird sanctuary, home of the endangered fairy tern.
Mangawhai Heads is a quiet beach resort on the North Islands stunning East Coast. White sandy beaches, azure water and spectacular views to the Hen and Chicken Islands are part of the attraction of the area.
The Yurt
What is a Yurt? A yurt is a circular wooden framed tent used as nomadic shelter in East and Central Asia The yurts at Milestone Cottages are authentic Mongolian Yurts.
The idea for the yurts grew out of the need for more space for yoga and meditation. A space around the front of the property overlooking the estuary through mature pohutukawas has been cleared to create a perfect place to sit within a circular space surrounded by peace and quiet.
The yurts are constructed with a handpainted and decorated circular dome on a lattice wall. The roof is supported with thin decorated rafter poles. Layers of wool and canvas provide insulation from the cold. Hand stitched wall hangings decorate the wall.
We are very excited about using the yurts for yoga retreats.
