Nokomai Station, Nokomai, Southland
Nokomai Station is a fully operational high country sheep and cattle station situated one hours drive from Queenstown and Te Anau.
Nokomai was first settled in 1857 by Donald Cameron, a Scottish settler, and is currently owned by the Hore family. Nokomai is one of the larger properties in New Zealand and is well known for both it's farming and gold mining history. Another feature is the Mataura River, a world famous trout fishing river, which winds it's way through the southern end of the property.
Farmstay Accommodation
Nokomai Valley offers visitors comfortable, stylish cottage accommodation set among the old trees and stone house of the original station homestead. While staying at Nokomai Valley the you can enjoy a variety of activities and participate in station life. One of the main attractions is trout fishing on the famous Mataura River.
Cottages
Nokomai Valley offers four separate cottages. These are one or two bedroom with private verandahs and offer superb views, stylish décor, kitchenette, bathroom. Laundry, super king-size beds, sofa bed, heating, Sky TV and phone. All cottages are non-smoking.

- Super king-size bed, or two king singles per room
- Large sofa bed in lounge
- Spacious living area with Sky TV
- Kitchenette includes fridge, microwave, bench-top electric hob with two elements. Fully equipped.
- Bathroom with fresh towels supplied

- Guests have the option of self-catering or having meals supplied.

Walking/Hiking - Nokomai Station has a great variety of tracks and trails ideal for walking and exploring. Choose from a short stroll through to a full day's hike.
Fishing - Bring your own equipment or team up with our guide for a day's trout fishing on the famous Mataura River.
Mountain Biking - Explore the Station's tracks on your bike and prepare for some tough up-hill climbs and some speedy descents! For the more relaxed, pedal your way down to the river for a swim. Mountain bikes available for hire at the Station.
Farm Activities - Nokomai Station is a fully operational high country sheep and cattle station. No matter what time of year that you visit there is always something happening and farm demonstrations can be arranged on request. Your chance to see a sheepdog in action!
Flightseeing Tours - Nokomai Helicopters, based on site offer a range of tours including Milford Sound and Fiordland. A popular tour is a half hour flight over Nokomai Station.
Heritage Trail - Nokomai Valley is part of the Northern Southland Heritage Trail which visits places of historical importance in the area. The owners of Nokomai have recently restored the original homestead which was built in 1873. Learn about the history of farming and gold-mining at Nokomai.
NZ GolfCross - We have a small cross country golfcross course . Challenge yourself with the oval shaped golf ball. Clubs available.
