Stoney Oaks Wildlife Park & The Barn Farmstay, Taranaki
STONEY OAKS WILDLIFE PARK
Stoney Oaks is a unique wildlife park that brings people and animals together in an extraordinary way.
We adopt the hands-on approach so there are heaps of animal cuddles to enjoy. You can sit on a cow, tickle a pig's tummy, hand feed possums, cuddle deer, Highland calves, sheep and goats, hold baby rabbits and guinea pigs.
Row a boat amongst black swans. Take a native bush walk, enjoy the pet eel and goldfish.
Animals to see include Fallow, Red, and Danish White deer, rabbits, wild and Kunekune pigs, Highland cattle, possums, Nubian goats, coloured sheep, ferrets, donkey, chinchillas, Tibetan yak, llama, guinea pigs, Miniature horse, ostrich, emu and Himalayan thar.
We are eight kilometres out of Inglewood, on the corner of Bristol and Kaimata Roads, Inglewood. (Sorry, no EFTPOS).
Open on school holidays, advertised days and to school and group visits by appointment.
THE BARN FARMSTAY
New Unique accomodation at Stoney Oaks Wildlife Park where 2-5 people can stay overnight and wake up with the animals – so to speak. The interior walls are made from macrocarpa timber, with corrugated iron ceilings and wooden floors to give the Barn-like touch. It's upmarket with amazing unique features including cast deer antlers for cupboard door handles, light fittings made from various horns (e.g. curly sheep, goat and cow) and there is even a deer antler chandelier. The shower is corrugated iron with stone floor and a rock to hold the soap. Deer antlers are used again for toilet roll holder and towel rails. A pitchfork holds the microwave shelf and an old whisky barrel hosts the TV. The table is made from an old Oak that blew over and cupboards are from an Elm tree. A beautiful view overlooking the park and pond can be seen from the kitchen window.
Patrons staying at "The Barn" will be able to help feed and look after the 300 plus animals and birds. They will meet the Highland cattle herd, feed out via a six-wheeler motorbike to Danish white Red deer herd. See the Kunekune pigs. Meet Boris the pet eel; bottle feed lambs and fawns etc. and generally enjoy the ultimate animal experience. Located in a secluded native bush setting "The Barn" has parking at the door, a queen size bed, two single beds and bed settee, and includes access to the wildlife park between 9am and 6pm.
