    About the Taranaki region

Taranaki's main city is New Plymouth. New Pymouth is a coastal city with a mountain within 30 minutes drive, so residents and visitors to New Plymouth can snowboard, ski, water ski and surf all in the same day. The city provides visitors with museums and art galleries which tell stories of the regions rich Maori history.

Notable features of the city are the Len Lye designed 45 metre tall (148 ft) artwork known as the Wind Wand, and the 10km coastal walkway alongside the Tasman Sea. New Plymouth's stunning parks and gardens are popular visitor attractions, and the Taranaki region annually hosts New Zealand's Rhododendron and WOMAD Festivals.

The Taranaki region is known as 'big wave territory' with some of the country's best surfing spots found off it's coastline.

Throughout Taranaki there are many country towns which show true country Kiwi living. Farmstays are abundant which enable visitors to experience a true insight into the life of rural New Zealanders.

The Forgotten World Highway between Stratford and Taumarunui is a 'must do' route for for travellers,  a highlight being the "Republic of Whangamomona".

Taranaki offers a wide choice of activities and accommodation. From Luxury lodges, to affordable premium motel units, there is something for everyone.
